Cocktail Events
Melbourne DJ Hire work at many types of functions and there are usually 2 types of meal style settings. Some events will usually be a seated dining style and the other would be a stand-up cocktail event. In this blog post we will tell you the pros and cons of each of these different types of events.
With a seating dining event it is more of a slower paced event. Guests stagger in and usually enjoy a drink or 2 and snack on some canapes while they are saying hello and greet their friends. Then they are seated for their meals, usually they will have an entree and then a main meal. All this time they are seated at their tables and are chatting with the people who are at their table. During the entree and main their might be a speech and some awards and because guests are seated the speeches run very smoothly. The disadvantage of having a seated event is that guests are comfortably stuck in their seats and are unable to move around the group and catch up with other people until the later part of the night.
A cocktail event on the other hand, guests are able to mingle and float about the entire room and chat to as many guests as possible. The venue will usually serve finger food and smaller plates or they could head to the grazing table to make a snack. When it comes time to dance most guests hit the dancefloor because they are already standing! The Melbourne DJ wont have to convince anyone to get up out of their seats. The only downside we have seen for a cocktail event is that if you have an awards ceremony or an even where there are a lot of speeches, then it is hard to get silence in the crowd, especially if the event has already been running for a few hours and guests have been loaded up with alcohol.
So if you have a private party or celebration, our Melbourne DJs would always suggest an informal cocktail party for a relaxed vibe. If you are holding a corporate gala or awards night, then a sit down meal is the way to go so your presentations run smoothly.
