Booking A DJ Over A Band
Melbourne DJ Hire sent a photobooth to a gala dinner during the week. The event was for a 3 day conference at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre and at the end of the conference, they planned a big gala dinner for all the attendees. Our photobooth was a huge hit at the dinner with a constant line of guests queuing up to get their photo taken with their friends and colleagues. The organisers had booked a live cover band instead of a Melbourne DJ and they actually did a great job.
There are a few things that organisers need to know when they are booking a DJ instead of a band. Our Melbourne DJs usually go out to functions on their own and have a limited amount of gear to take. For example, we only have speakers, our turntable, laptop and lights. Because of this simple set up, our prices are quite competitive. A band on the other hand has a wide range of equipment to load in, for example, their speakers, instruments like their drum kit, cables and mics. There are also usually 4 or more band members, so the price of a live cover band would be a lot different to a Melbourne DJ working solo.
However the most important factor when you are booking a DJ instead of the band is that the Melbourne Dj does not need to take a break during the dance bracket. Because the members of the band are playing and singing live, they are required to take a break every 20-30 minutes. So even if the dancefloor is full and everyone is one the dancefloor having a good time, the music will turn off as the band needs to have a rest. On the night of the gala, there was a lot of dancing from all the attendees, however during the last break that the band took, more than half the guests left and called it a night.
The benefits of booking a Melbourne DJ for your event is that, we don’t need to take a long break when your guests are dancing. We continue playing for the whole duration of the night and try to keep everyone on the dancefloor and at your party.
