Length Of Speeches
Melbourne DJ Hire have worked at numerous types of events and one thing that always happens at an event are speeches. Some people do it right and have the right number of speakers and keep everything to a manage time but there are times when the speeches take up a long time.
In our experience, having 5 speaker would be the maximum. If you have any more than 5 people speaking it gets tiring for guests, especially if they are older or if people have been drinking and want to move about and get silly. We would also suggest loved ones to keep their speeches under 5 minutes and to keep it short, sweet and to the point.
The usual speakers at a private event are parents, best friends and the host. There so some events where there might be more speakers, for example a wedding there will be 2 sets of parents, best friends from either side and the couple. Sometimes there might be more speakers like siblings or grandparents. If that is the case, then we would suggest splitting the speeches into 2 parts, one around the start of the night, have a break for food and drinks and have another set of speeches later in the night.
Melbourne DJ Hire has also seen many entertaining types of speeches in the past and the best speeches are the ones that are short, funny with a sentimental note at the finish. Another great type of speech is one where there are visuals like if there is a slideshow or props. A lot of loved ones organise a slideshow and tell funny stories about the host or some people even bring out funny props related to the story or the host.
So if you would like a number of formal speeches throughout the night, it is best to give your loved ones a heads up about the time limit or give them some funny ideas on how they could tell their stories.
