Thunderstorm – Djs Melbourne
Over the weekend Melbourne Dj hire and our photobooth company Beauty and the Booth were booked to provide the entertainment for a kids party over the weekend. The party was held at the parents house on the properties tennis court. It was a 5th birthday party and a jumping castle was set up, pony rides, a silent disco, a photobooth, a DJ, a face painter, a balloon artist and a photographer was hired but this ultimate kids party. The party was held on the second day of winter and the mother did well to hire a marquee and some portable gas heaters. But being Melbourne our city is full of surprises and there was a thunderstorm brewing in the distance.
The party had been going for just under 2 hours, Melbourne Dj Hire’s photobooth was supposed to be set up on the tennis court but it was actually forecast to rain during the start of the party so it was moved under the marquee. The kids were very lucky to have got some use from the pony rides and the jumping castle because once the thunderstorm hit the party, it was over. Melbourne Dj Hire’s props and curtain was flying everywhere, the marquee was leaking with rain water, the strong thunderstorm wind was blowing inside the marquee because even though there were 2 heaters set up the icy wind was so cold that the heaters gave off no heat.
Lucky for everyone that there was some shelter from the thunderstorm, the inside of the house was large enough to seat half the elder guests and family. But sadly most of the kids and parents had said goodbye and left the party. As there was nothing left to do and also nowhere comfortable to sit.
When you are planning an outdoor party in the winter months, it is imperative that there is an undercover area set up and also adequate heating. Semi enclosed marquees are a great idea and a handful of gas heaters works wonders at an outdoor event on a cold day. Another option is just to make the event weather proof by booking an venue indoors. One of our Melbourne Djs worked at a kids party at a venue that specialised in kids dance parties, there was a big thunderstorm that day and we said to the dad, ‘lucky you are indoors today.’ The dad then said to us, ‘it May, we never risk holding this party outdoors.’
