Organizing Song Selection
Melbourne DJ Hire are booked for a number of different birthday parties every weekend. We do 18ths, 21sts, 40ths and 50th birthdays and their song selection varies based on age, culture and of course music preference.
When a client wants to select their own music for us to play we tell them to break up the list into two separate lists. A list for background music towards the start of the night. These songs will be the songs that the birthday person loves listening to but not necessarily songs that will want to make guests dance. That way, our Melbourne DJ can still play these songs while people are arriving, catching up and mingling. Then once guests have settled in and had a few drinks we will play the dance tracks towards the end of the night. These tracks will include all the people pleasers like Usher, ABBA, Beyonce and more.
When it comes to organising your song selection, it is also important to pick the very popular tracks that are the big hits. For example, Shake it Off by Taylor Swift, Crazy in Love by Beyonce, Dancing Queen by ABBA. All of these songs were huge hits from those artists and there is a good chance that all your guests will know and dance to them. When you start adding the less popular songs to your dancelist, that is when you lose numbers on the dancefloor as some guests will not know the songs.
Our Melbourne DJs also love playing cultural music as it brings generations of guests onto the dancefloor. Grandmothers are dancing with their grandchildren and it really brings the whole party together. So if you would like some cultural music at your event, you can either email us a link to the songs or you could bring those songs on a USB for us to play on the night.
