Melbourne Dj hire worked at a wedding over the weekend where the bride had a ‘mate of honour’ instead of a ‘maid of honour’. Our trend setting client wanted her best friend who was a male to be in her bridal party and gave him the highest honour of all.
The ‘mate of honour’ was her closest friend who had been through a lot with her. He was also in charge of planning her bachelorette party and also wrote a speech for her. This is the first wedding our Melbourne DJ worked at where there was a ‘mate of honour’ and it makes sense. In this day and age of gender and marriage equality, doing what is tradition goes out the window for the individuals desire.
There was one video on YouTube a few years ago where the brides gay best friend was also her ‘mate of honour’ and he did a wonderful speech about how the bride supported him through his difficult youth and how they both have changed their choices in men throughout the years. The ‘mate of honour’ also organised a choreographed dance to their favourite artist Britney Spears. He ended the speech saying marriage takes a lot of ‘work’ and then the Dj played the song ‘Work Bitch’ and the waiters and waitresses were dancers in disguise and all went to the dance floor for an impressive dance number.
So whatever your idea is for your wedding, do what you feel is important to you. Melbourne Dj hire have worked at many weddings through out the years and weddings are definitely changing from the old traditional reception and bridal party. A mate of honour, a surprise wedding, eloping and then having a small cocktail party back home to celebrate with your loved one. One of our Melbourne djs even worked at a wedding where the venue served pizza. That was a hit with all the guests.
